First Film Roll Processed

This year has flown by! I started the film journey back in March and am only now, in late August, showing off the fruits of my efforts from one roll of film.

To be honest I was as nervous as I was excited about going back to film, albeit on a small hobby scale. For me, this was the ultimate test of my knowledge of photography. With my DSLRs, I got quick feedback about my images and could make minor adjustments in the field as I shot. With my new mirrorless camera, I can take it a step further and get real-time information and adjust my settings before I even press the shutter release. I had been spoiled with technological advances. Using my old film camera took me back to the beginning. So seeing the photos for the first time, many months later than they were shot, was quite exciting.

We are all our own worst critics and while many of the photos that follow are decent, none are great. Of the 36 exposures I had available I ended up with 22 that I enjoyed. Some will not be shared for the privacy of specific individuals but I think I still have 16 to share.

In order of how they were shot, the final images.

Apple tree blossoms

My beautiful wife hates when I take photos of her and hates seeing those photos even more. She will also probably hate that I shared this photo but I love it. Here she is coloring with a few of her favorites.

Channing, Blue, Brooke and Dusty

Taken right around the time of his attempted murder of Brooke. Yes, we still have him and yes he is still a giant cuddle bear.

Beau

One of my favorites from the whole roll of film. She reminds me of owls in both her looks and behavior.

Roe

Two more of Channing. What a goof but we love her.

The next few landscapes I had hoped for a more contrasty (is that a word? No? Oh well) look than what I achieved. I still enjoyed them enough to share a few though.

Another favorite of mine

The rest of the roll was shot after my seizure and I was on some time off work. I don’t recall much from those days. I do remember how I felt though which was miserable.

The last shots were a series of portraits we saved for the end.

Morgan with her mask still applied. Another goofy kid

I am in no danger of winning any kind of award for these photos but I did enjoy myself enough to continue in the pursuit. Perhaps even dig deep into my old knowledge database and process my own film again. Time will tell.
